Chapter 385 - 231: The Dangers of Ignorance
Chapter 385 - 231: The Dangers of Ignorance
The Sunset City under the Sleeping Moon already has a hint of desolation.
From the paths between the countryside to the broad smooth boulevard, thick snow blankets the ground, stretching endlessly with no sign of a single figure.
Whoosh!
A giant wolf dashes madly across the snow, kicking up a flurry of snowflakes.
The giant wolf stands almost chest-high to an adult male human, with a light gray body, agile and powerful limbs, occasionally baring its mouth to exhale a breath of white mist during its run, faintly revealing extremely sharp fangs, with traces of blood seemingly still lodged between the teeth.
Even more astonishing, the giant wolf has a horn on its head.
Fanor tightens the fur cloak around his body as he rides on the wolf’s back, glancing at the snowflakes falling from the sky, and couldn’t help but curse.
"Damn weather!"
In such cold weather, even someone like him, a second-level Wizard Apprentice, finds it difficult to endure.
But when his gaze lands on the bulging sack in front of him, his mood improves considerably.
"With these Silver Moon Flowers, I’ll soon be able to construct the fourth star ring!"
"I should have realized earlier that the city has so many good things and should have left the village sooner to scour for resources!"
Fanor clicked his tongue.
If he had realized this early, he wouldn’t have spent decades just to be promoted to a second-level Wizard Apprentice.
"However, people in that shop said it’s the Star Alliance’s business."
Though he stayed in the countryside, Fanor is aware of the Star Alliance.
It’s a giant entity that rules the entire continent!
Stealing from the Star Alliance obviously means being hunted down.
Fanor doesn’t really care; at worst, he could just find a place to hide.
Starlight Continent is so big—just find any nook to hide, and how could the Star Alliance dig him out?
"Should I go to the underground world or the Rainbow Sea?"
Fanor has seen these places in the Wizard’s Scripture, believing they are surely outside the Star Alliance’s sphere of influence, and once in, the sky is the limit.
As Fanor indulges in this pleasing thought, he suddenly hears a gust of wind.
In an instant, alarm bells ring in his mind. He instinctively shifts his body to the side, and the next second hears a rending sound as if flesh were tearing, with a flash of blood before his eyes.
"Awoo!"
The giant wolf magical pet beneath him lets out a wail, its legs weakened, causing it to fall forward along with Fanor, who falls heavily to the ground.
Fortunately, his constitution is strong, leaving him uninjured. He quickly gathers himself, rolls a certain distance, and promptly stands up, looking sternly at the direction the attack came from.
What meets his eyes are two men in robes.
It’s a stretch to call them men; they appear to be just fifteen or sixteen years old—very young, more like boys.
Beside them stand two black panthers, their cold, ghostly eyes looking over with no emotion.
"What are those? Magical pets?"
Fanor vaguely senses that these black panthers are unusual, appearing not to be normal beings, and giving off a more dangerous vibe than his own magical pet.
"Who are you? Why did you ambush me?"
Fanor glanced at the giant wolf lying on the ground, which was now barely breathing.
The earlier strike had directly penetrated its back and chest, leaving a large hole with blood soaking the snow beneath, turning it crimson, and the creature was already dying.
Seeing his precious magical pet grievously injured and near death, Fanor felt both heartache and anger.
Were it not for seeing that the two opposing him were clearly Wizard Apprentices and having two menacing-looking black panthers, he would have lashed out with anger long ago.
Upon hearing Fanor’s question, the two youths exchanged glances and simultaneously showed a helpless smile.
The youth on the right lifted his hood, revealing a handsome face.
He pointed at the star-shaped badge pinned to his chest, smilingly said, "Just came from the countryside, right? How dare you steal from the Star Alliance but can’t recognize the Star Alliance’s emblem?"
The other tall and skinny youth shook his head somewhat helplessly, sighed, and said, "There are indeed quite a few people like you over the past few years—always hiding in remote areas to train, and only coming out after advancing to a second-level Wizard Apprentice, knowing nothing, then get blinded by greed at the sight of good things, even daring to covet the Star Alliance’s business?"
"You’re probably thinking of escaping to the underground world or Rainbow Sea and believing the Star Alliance won’t find you?"
Fanor’s expression changed, almost blurting out ’how did you know.’
Noticing the change in Fanor’s expression, the tall skinny youth knew he had guessed correctly, shaking his head helplessly.
It’s not that he possesses the Mind Reading Skill, it’s just that most captured Wizard Apprentices previously had this same thought.
"Ignorance is terrifying—the underground world and Rainbow Sea are both Star Alliance territories, where do you think you can escape to?"
Fanor’s complexion changed abruptly, greatly shocked.
The underground world and Rainbow Sea are Star Alliance territories?
How is that possible?
The Wizard’s Scripture clearly records that these places are vast and dangerous, how could Star Alliance conquer them?
Seemingly aware of Fanor’s thoughts, the tall skinny youth curled his lips and said, "You simply don’t understand the strength of the Star Alliance."
"Enough." The handsome youth interrupted his companion, "That’s enough chit-chat, hurry up and take him back; I still have to go to Flash City later."
The tall skinny youth seems to heed the handsome youth, immediately shutting up as he speaks, his demeanor becoming serious, a hint of coldness in his gaze directed at Fanor.
Fanor’s heart shuddered. He acted first, quickly uttering syllables with his mouth, raising his hand to shoot a blue beam towards the handsome youth.
