Chapter 425 - 424: Spiritual Body

Chapter 425 - 424: Spiritual Body

It was a figure condensing from the Holy Light...

She seemed like a ghost, but Gawain was sure she wasn’t an undead creature. No undead could survive in such a pure Holy Light environment, let alone one composed of Holy Light itself. Yet she was clearly not a flesh-and-blood being: she hovered slightly behind Wright, some height above the ground, and her entire form was made of clear light, presenting a hazy translucent state. With the ebb and flow of the surrounding Holy Light, her entire figure also flickered, as if it was constantly in a state of brightening and restructuring.

The wondrous "Spiritual Body" looked like a frail girl about ten years old, her features slightly blurred, except for a pair of bright eyes that were particularly striking. Now, those bright eyes were locking onto Amber’s in a stare-off, which lasted several seconds until the little spirit girl let out an ethereal, wind-chime-like exclamation: "Ah—"

Amber’s own exclamation was much louder: "Whoa!!"

Then the half-elf lady darted next to Gawain, looking alarmed at the "ghost" she had "caught". "Good heavens! Old man, what is that thing!!"

People tend to blurt out what’s on their minds when they’re nervous—Amber’s bruised head was mostly due to this.

On that note: Rebecca’s bruised head was mostly due to her unfiltered talk, but what set her apart was that she babbled even when not nervous...

Gawain casually knocked on Amber’s head, while Wright had already turned around, staring slack-jawed at the floating spirit girl behind him. Bearing an incredulous expression, he hesitantly called out: "Emily?"

The spirit girl floated like a leaf, drifting lightly from Wright’s left to his right. She seemed to respond to Wright’s call by showing a trace of joy on her face, but she did not speak.

"Are you sure this is Emily?" Gawain was recovering from his initial surprise. He was equally disbelieving, and even pinched himself secretly, yet the Spiritual Body was floating right before his eyes, leaving him little room for doubt. "Is it the Emily you mentioned?"

"It’s her... it’s certainly her..." Wright murmured, unable to resist reaching out to Emily. Yet his hand easily passed through her ethereal body, to which Emily responded with a gentle laugh before drifting from Wright’s right to his left again, as if playing a game. Witnessing this, Wright’s voice trembled uncontrollably, "Emily... could it be that I’ve trapped your soul?"

"No... she doesn’t look like an undead..." Pittman had experienced his own shock but was now calmly analyzing, "Undead wouldn’t be so serene... nor would they be this close to the Holy Light... she appears more like a pure energy entity."

Amber instantly felt relieved hearing Pittman’s analysis, rubbing her head as she muttered, "That’s good... I thought my hand had caught Reaper’s attention. Last time I touched a coffin, I extracted a 700-year-old entity, and this time I touched Holy Light only to pull out a ghost..."

Gawain casually rapped on this half-elf’s head again, causing her to yelp, while inside he sighed—Amber’s muttering reflected thoughts he himself had entertained. He wondered if Amber might have a talent for resurrecting ancestors from grave-digging, which wouldn’t just mean catching Reaper’s eye but rather having been enlightened by the God of Life’s bathwater. He mused about taking Amber to the tombs of the Cecil Clan scattered across Anzu and having her touch the coffin lids of all those old allies dear to Gawain Cecil...

With such unreliable thoughts swirling in his mind, Gawain maintained his primal ancestral dignity on the outside. He glanced at the spiritual girl beside Wright and nodded slightly, then gave Wright a soft smile, "It seems this young girl isn’t willing to leave you just yet."

"But why..." Wright still couldn’t understand why the deceased Emily would reappear to him in this form, "Why has she become like this? Could it be that the presence I felt in the church these past days was her?"

"Honestly, this surpasses my knowledge," Pittman stroked his beard, suddenly speaking, "But perhaps another expert on our domain can help."

Wright didn’t catch on immediately: "Another expert?"

Gawain, in that moment, had already figured out who Pittman was referring to, but before he could speak, Amber, sharp-minded as ever, piped up, "Ah! Yes! Kamel—we’ve got another one that glows on the domain!"

Before Gawain could give the order, the disgraced elf, twice knocked on the head in a short period, had already faded into the air, leaving a single sentence lingering above: "I’m going to call him over!"

Gawain could only watch as Amber disappeared before him, then turn back and gaze helplessly at "Emily" drifting through the air.

Emily floated lazily toward him, her big eyes filled with curiosity. After a while, she revealed a broad smile.

Gawain also returned the smile, his heart inevitably curious.

```
He had heard Wright say that Emily was just an ordinary poor child, a kid from a destitute family. Yet, this child had a bold and open personality that completely defied her status. She was full of curiosity and dared to speak with the Knights (soldiers) who came to the village, and now, transformed into a spiritual body, she still dared to interact with a big figure like Gawain.
No matter how you look at it, this girl is somewhat incredible.
Emily slowly drifted a little distance away, she laughed again, emitting a kind of ethereal sound, then slowly rose within the area covered by the Holy Light around Wright, drifting to and fro—but she was not limited to the range covered by the Holy Light. Occasionally, Gawain saw her drifting beyond the Holy Light, navigating the air as a standalone spirit, but she quickly returned to Wright’s side, seemingly... maintaining some mysterious connection between them.
Gawain and Pittman did not wait long in the church; whether in shadow traversal or lightning teleportation, the speed far exceeded the foot strength of others. In just a few minutes, a crackling beam of light suddenly appeared on the church’s central open ground, alongside which emerged Kamel’s body, filled with arcane brilliance.
"I’ve heard the news brought by Amber," Kamel floated towards Gawain, "what exactly happened..."
Then he saw Emily floating near Wright, after a moment of speechlessness, he couldn’t hide his surprise: "...Oh, ancestors... an energy body similar to mine?"
A vague shadow wriggled and twisted in the air, Amber’s figure emerged from it, looking at Kamel proudly: "How about it, just like I said, right? Although she’s not as bright as you."
Emily also noticed Kamel who appeared suddenly. She seemed a bit surprised but showed no fear—perhaps transformed into a spiritual form, her already great courage became even greater. Or maybe she sensed something similar to her from Kamel, anyway, she did not retreat, and instead, boldly floated towards Kamel, issuing a brief question: "Huh?"
"Can you tell what’s going on?" Gawain looked at Kamel, "Is she really an energy body similar to you?"
"I can see her energy nodes... different in distribution from mine, but the principle is likely the same," Kamel extended his arm filled with arcane energy, slowly approaching Emily, "She is not yet stable, seems to be in the process of metamorphosis but already has the preliminary ability to exist independently..."
Emily curiously watched Kamel and mimicked him by extending her own hand, one was filled with arcane brilliance, the other condensed by Holy Light. The two glowing limbs slowly approached each other, before their fingers touched, a brilliant yet brief energy spark suddenly erupted from their fingertips, forming a small spark in the air.
Emily laughed happily.
"Her mind seems unstable too, but undoubtedly she has normal cognitive ability—definitely not a ghost."
"You just mentioned her unstable state, and that she’s in the process of metamorphosis?" Wright noticed Kamel’s words earlier and couldn’t help but ask, "What does that mean?"
"To transform from a human into a spirit body creature requires a metamorphosis process to fully stabilize, as we are not inherently elemental creatures with energy bodies," Kamel explained, "Of course, this is just speculation based on my situation. The research samples are limited, so I cannot confirm all transformations are like this."
Wright pressed on: "Then do you know how Emily became like this?"
"I need to understand the situation first," Kamel turned to Wright, "I heard that after you abandoned your faith in the Holy Light God, you regained Holy Light, and this girl named Emily played a significant role in the process... What exactly happened at that time?"
Focused on his research, Kamel didn’t know Wright’s experiences and had only learned some general information from Amber. So Gawain and Wright recounted the entire night in the Konsko Domain to Kamel.
After hearing the whole story, Kamel sighed subtly and said softly: "This is truly an extraordinary experience..."
He then pondered while saying: "My transformation was due to the influence of God of Nature, Amon, the Giant Stag. The God of Nature’s power infused into me, thereby changing my form. Emily, on the other hand, transformed under the infusion of Holy Light... My transformation involved my body changing entirely, my physical form was recast into the ’armored plates’ you see, whereas Emily seems to have her soul completely transformed, her body hasn’t been preserved..."
"It’s probably because the power level of the Giant Stag is higher, allowing more thorough transformation," Amber speculated, "Yet Wright, upon awakening Holy Light, managed to transform Emily into such a spirit body... that’s impressive too."
"It shouldn’t be solely Wright’s power," Kamel said while casually summoning an arcane energy sphere, attracting Emily to float around it, "Emily herself... perhaps she had a sufficiently high affinity for Holy Light."
