Chapter 559 - 560 Here is Nation at Arms [2nd Update]
At the Lord of the Four Seas’ command, all soldiers of the Dragon Dynasty clenched their teeth and threw themselves headlong into the fray. Some manned the mobile cannons, while others boarded the Dragon Dynasty’s aircraft and soared into the sky.
They too were filled with valor and had a backbone of steel. "Those who offend our Dynasty shall be pursued, no matter how far!"
They gave chase to the fleeing aircraft of the other dynasties.
The figure in the sky, having crushed the formidable enemy, descended like a shooting star and finally landed atop the Great Wall. Wu Tian stood there calmly, his back to the Lord of the Four Seas and the others. Yet, his mere silhouette possessed a majestic aura, as powerful and immense as great mountains and rivers. So close, and yet so far! Wu Tian could no longer be referred to as a mere "person"!
The Lord of the Four Seas couldn’t help but sigh in relief. Thank heavens such a phenom was born in our Dragon Dynasty. Otherwise, the world would be in peril!
A portion of the people had fled Longjing, among them civilians and soldiers. They were the wildfire embers the Lord of the Four Seas had set aside as a contingency, for as the saying goes, "A single spark can start a prairie fire." They were the hope for the future, a contingency forced to leave their homes and bide their time. At this moment, however, they had all stopped in their tracks, witnessing something utterly unbelievable. No matter how they racked their brains, they could never have imagined it: Wu Tian, all by himself, would arrive by Breaking the Void and, in a single instant, reverse the Qiankun to rewrite the fate of the battle.
"We don’t have to leave anymore!" one shouted.
"Let’s fight with them!" another yelled.
"Yes! Let’s slaughter these thieves right here and show them they can’t underestimate our Dragon Dynasty!"
"CHARGE!"
All across the Dragon Dynasty, aircraft scrambled to intercept the enemy in the sky, while cannons on the ground opened fire. They could not, under any circumstances, allow the enemy to leave. Otherwise, letting them come and go as they pleased would set a dangerous precedent. What would they do if it happened again? Their Dragon Dynasty had to prove itself. A fighting spirit, long dormant, now roared to life.
After a century of slumber, the people of the Dynasty have awakened!
Open your eyes and watch carefully, who would willingly call themselves a slave?
Because of our cowering and tolerance, the enemy’s arrogance grows daily!
So shout, cry out loud! Here, the entire Dynasty is an army!
Any bandit who dares to invade will ultimately meet their doom!
The Great Wall will never fall!
The waters of the Yellow River surge on!
The invaders’ aircraft fled chaotically through the air, their fighting spirit completely shattered. They had thought their foray into the Dragon Dynasty would bring them fame and glory, a great victory to be immortalized in the annals of history. How wrong they were. As they fled, pursued by the Dragon Dynasty’s aircraft, not a single pilot had the courage to turn and fight back.
The pursuing soldiers were not necessarily stronger than them; in fact, the Dragon Dynasty’s aircraft were a notch inferior to their own. After all, their aircraft were the product of joint research by scientists from across the various dynasties, developed after a flash of Spiritual Light during the resurgence of Spiritual Energy.
But they no longer dared to entertain the thought of fighting.
Escape!
Escape!
Escape!
They vowed never to invade the Dragon Dynasty again. They regretted ever setting foot here. Flee, flee, flee! Their forces collapsed like a landslide. At this moment, even the greatest marshal in history, risen from the dead, could not have reversed this frenzied rout or quelled the soldiers’ desperate urge to escape. Under the barrage from the Dragon Dynasty’s aircraft, some of their aircraft even collided with one another, resulting in fiery explosions. Their retreat descended into utter chaos, a horrific spectacle of aircraft crashing into each other. They desperately tried to escape the Dragon Dynasty’s Earth Realm, but it now seemed like a distant pipe dream.
Only one aircraft managed to escape the Dragon Dynasty’s Earth Realm: the escape craft piloted by Hai’er.
"Hai’er, thank goodness you saw this coming. You truly have the talent of a commander," the female General said, taking a deep breath in relief. "If it weren’t for your foresight about this battle, we would have died in there with the others."
Hai’er offered a small smile. He had been born on Valentine’s Day, making him something of an outlier among his noble peers. Yet, in this squadron of aristocrats, he had won everyone over with his kingly demeanor.
He sighed and said suddenly, "Let’s go home. Forget fame and fortune. The life I want is one facing the sea, where spring is warm and flowers bloom."
The female General furrowed her brow slightly. "But Hai’er, you have such innate talent. Are you just going to let it go to waste?"
Hai’er chuckled. "What innate talent? I’m tired, truly tired. Let’s go back to the countryside. I have some land there, a manor. We can raise dairy cows and be self-sufficient. Wouldn’t that be nice? Such a peaceful life would be wonderful!"
The female General’s lips quivered as if she wanted to speak but couldn’t find the words. Hai’er yearned for a life where he could lean against a tower listening to the wind and rain, watching the roads of Jianghu with a smile.
However, the female General had no desire for such a life. I want fame and success! I want to be the center of attention wherever I go, to be revered by all! That’s the life I want! She had thought she could achieve this by relying on Hai’er, but she never expected that for all his talent, he possessed no ambition.
How can I get the wealth I desire? the General wondered. Her gaze suddenly fell upon Hai’er, and a flicker of guilt appeared in her eyes, only to be instantly consumed by greed.
「Atop the Great Wall」
The Lord of the Four Seas walked up behind Wu Tian. "You averted the calamity that threatened to destroy our Dynasty and reversed the Qiankun. For that, I thank you."
Wu Tian shook his head. "Thank me? For what? This is my home, my Dynasty, too."
The Lord of the Four Seas and the others nodded in agreement. Indeed, this was everyone’s home, everyone’s Dynasty. The world did not belong to a single person, but to all the people of the world.
Wu Tian stretched, feeling it was about time to go back to sleep.
"Report!" Just then, a soldier rushed over. "Envoys from the other dynasties have arrived! They say they want to make a deal!"
A flicker of surprise crossed the eyes of the Lord of the Four Seas and the others. We’ve fought, we’ve killed, and any pretense of civility has been torn to shreds. What deal could they possibly want to make now? Still, the Lord of the Four Seas remained composed. He glanced at Wu Tian and said, "Let’s go and see."
Wu Tian nodded, curious himself to see what the other dynasties were planning.
The envoys were waiting in the main hall of the Forbidden City, so Wu Tian and the others began to walk there. Along the way, the Lord of the Four Seas glanced at Wu Tian. "Even though we repelled them this time," he said, "their ambition won’t end here."
"Then we’ll fight until their dynasties are annihilated," Wu Tian declared bluntly. What is the Ginseng Fruit Tree’s trial, anyway? It must be to unify the world!
The Lord of the Four Seas and the others were stunned by his words. Eradicate all the other dynasties? Is that even possible? Wu Tian was oblivious to their doubts. If he had known, he would have answered them with resounding certainty: it was!
When they arrived at the main hall of the Forbidden City, the envoys from the various dynasties were still waiting. Their expressions were complex. They had come to make a proposal that only the most shameless could utter, but that was precisely why they had been chosen; they were the most thick-skinned individuals their respective dynasties had to offer. The mission their Monarchs had given them was one they had to complete.
