Chapter 272 - 237: Playing Dirty and Calling for Backup
Much of the speculation came from the internet.
The old man browses the internet on his phone now, and he gets really into it.
But the shelter was under closed management and had security cameras outside. Yu Dalin was timid and had limited means, so he hadn’t gathered any useful evidence.
Most of it was just his speculation.
"Sir."
Shen Xin stood up. "We’ve noted down what you’ve told us, sir," he said. "We’ll go back and discuss how to proceed. If we discover anything, we’ll let you know. How does that sound?"
Shen Xin also asked for the video footage.
As for what to do next, Shen Xin needed to go back and think it over.
Yu Dalin seemed a little dissatisfied. He had probably imagined a scenario where Shen Xin would immediately whip out a pair of handcuffs, arrest Chen Fang on the spot, and haul her off to be sentenced.
So, as he was seeing the two of them out, he kept grabbing Shen Xin’s hand, insisting something was wrong with Chen Fang and that his intuition was always spot-on.
Now he was bringing intuition into it.
After one last glance at the well-behaved black dog squatting by Yu Dalin’s feet, Shen Xin and Li Jiahui bid their farewells and left.
But instead of returning to the base, they headed into the village.
Shen Xin wanted to go to the village committee to ask about the Wolf Green.
Li Jiahui was driving. Once they were some distance away, she immediately asked Shen Xin for his thoughts.
Shen Xin said, "I should be asking you that. You’ve interacted with Chen Fang more. What kind of person do you think she is?"
It was his first time meeting Chen Fang, so he didn’t know her. How could he know what she was really like, or if her outward appearance was genuine?
Li Jiahui first qualified her statement, saying she had only interacted with Chen Fang a total of four times.
"But based on those four interactions, I think she’s a good person. All the volunteers who come to help really respect her and believe she’s doing a good thing."
"The opinions of all those people have to count for something, right?"
Li Jiahui asked, turning her head.
As a veterinarian, she had come to help out twice.
There were tons of volunteers there at the time.
All of them respected Chen Fang and praised her as a good person.
And Yu Dalin was just one person.
It’s true that sometimes the truth lies with the minority, but with that many people, surely they can’t all be shills hired by Chen Fang.
Shen Xin remained noncommittal. "We’ll deal with that later. First, let’s ask about the Wolf Green."
The fact that it’s roaming around and could potentially hurt someone is more pressing.
There was someone at the village committee office.
The village director wasn’t in, but his assistant, a young man in his twenties named Tang Xu, was there.
"Oh, that dog! I know about it."
As soon as he heard Shen Xin ask about the Wolf Green, he immediately perked up. "It’s not so much a question of whether it bites people," he said. "I remember it started wandering around here before the Lunar New Year, so it’s been about two or three months. I think it’s only attacked someone once."
"And that was because some little brat tried to throw firecrackers at it during the holiday. That’s when it lunged at him, but it didn’t really bite him. Just gave him a scare."
"That dog’s smart. It probably knows the consequences of attacking a person would be dire, so it usually avoids people."
At this point, Tang Xu’s tone shifted abruptly, and he said angrily, "But it’s a thief."
"Chickens, ducks... you name it. Not many people raise them these days, but this dog has wreaked havoc on the ones we do have."
"And the cured sausages! You know we have a tradition of making those for the New Year around here. Good grief, you look away for one second, and it’s stolen them."
"It’s even sneakier than a feral cat. Sometimes we hide them, and we still have no idea how it gets into the house to dig them out."
"Around the New Year, so many people complained to us, telling us to figure out a way to get rid of the dog. The problem is, we’ve got no ideas! We can’t even shoo it away."
"Officers, how about you guys figure out a way to get rid of it for us?"
His face was full of hope. Clearly, this dog had caused him more than a few headaches.
Shen Xin thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright. We’re actually from the K9 base, so we’ll see what we can do."
Hearing this only made Shen Xin even more interested in the dog.
To put it bluntly, this dog was a carbon copy of Tiger Stripes.
It was even craftier than Tiger Stripes.
Its survival instincts were extremely strong, and it was exceptionally intelligent.
Its sense of smell couldn’t be bad, either, if it could sneak into people’s homes to rummage for food.
Plus, it was strong and well-built, with plenty of aggression.
If it were properly trained, it would absolutely become an excellent, versatile police dog.
"Really!"
When he heard Shen Xin and Li Jiahui were from the K9 base, Tang Xu’s eyes lit up. He knew the base was over in Nanzhu, not too far away.
He immediately grabbed Shen Xin’s hand and thanked him profusely.
Shen Xin waved it off and casually asked if Tang Xu knew anything about Chen Fang.
"You mean Sister Fang, right?"
Tang Xu realized who he meant. "She’s a great person. She runs that stray animal rescue, right? Her yard is rented from the village."
"She said she was worried about disturbing the neighbors, so she even offered to pay a little more in rent. She’s been in the village for a year or two now, I think. Anyway, it’s always been fine. There’s never been any trouble."
Then he asked if something was wrong.
"It’s nothing."
Shen Xin smiled and shook his head.
So, Yu Dalin was truly in the minority.
The two of them took the opportunity to wander around the village for a bit.
But they didn’t spot the Wolf Green.
’It must have a den somewhere.’
The two of them returned to the base with the white dog they had picked out.
When they got back to the base, Li Mo was in a full bite suit, finding out what it felt like to be attacked by a police dog.
At Chen Guo’s command, his dog, Knight, went tearing after Li Mo.
Li Mo turned and ran for it.
But in the heavy bite suit, his movements were incredibly clumsy. He’d only taken a few steps before Knight caught up to him.
Knight was a German Shepherd, with a powerful attack.
With a flying leap, it latched onto Li Mo’s right forearm.
It didn’t let go. Using the momentum from its leap, it swung its body with considerable force, pulling Li Mo right off his feet and onto the ground.
