Chapter 308: The Dragon Egg and the Miso Plan

It had only been a few days since they heard Qiong Xing had given birth to Iseul’s child.

They had even met several times before that, yet Qiong Xing had shown absolutely no signs of it, leaving everyone wondering when exactly it had happened.

Apparently, even Qiong Xing himself had not expected it.

After hearing that dragons developed their young outside the body unlike humans, Sarin finally remembered all over again that Iseul really was a dragon after all.

"It is surprisingly small."

Considering Iseul’s massive dragon form, Sarin had expected the egg to be enormous as well, but when he finally saw it, it was only about the size of something that could fit into both palms.

"It has actually grown quite a bit already. At first it was only about the size of a chicken egg."

If Qiong Xing said so, then it probably had grown considerably, but still...

"...How exactly does the shell grow too?"

He could understand the inside growing larger, but hearing that even the eggshell itself expanded was completely new to him.

When Sarin asked what that even meant, Qiong Xing thought about it for a moment before smiling adorably and answering very simply.

"I do not know."

Since there was no helping it, Sarin decided to let it go.

"Sometimes I nap together with the children, and when I wake up, they are hugging the egg while sleeping. It was incredibly cute."

"I wanted to see that too!" Katarina said.

The egg itself had been surprising enough, but at least it seemed Qiong Xing’s condition was perfectly fine, which was a relief.

"What!? You mean I missed such a precious moment!?"

"...You are going to startle Lian, so stop yelling."

Lian blinked her eyes in confusion at Sarin whose suddenly shouting while sitting on his lap, but once Sarin reassured her that everything was alright, she simply resumed eating her snack.

He could make as much noise as he wanted, but disturbing the grandchildren was unacceptable.

"S-sorry... But I wanted to see it too."

If it were possible, Katarina wanted to witness it herself as well, but obviously no one could exactly tell Qiong Xing to go take a nap right now just for that.

"Well, maybe there will be another chance someday. More importantly, how are things on Roland’s side?"

"About that..."

The reason they had called Qiong Xing over today was not only because of the egg, but also to discuss the miso sales they had talked about before.

"From what Roland told us, things are apparently not going very well. It is not that no one is interested at all, but... well, the appearance is the problem. I think people would understand if they actually tasted it, but trying unfamiliar seasonings is difficult for most people."

Katarina and the others already knew how delicious it was because they had eaten it before, but to people unfamiliar with it, it was simply a strange unknown ingredient.

Thinking Qiong Xing might have some sort of idea, they contacted Roland as requested.

Less than thirty minutes later, Roland came rushing in so quickly that everyone stared at him in surprise.

"I heard I had been summoned by my goddess, so I rushed here immediately! It has been far too long!"

Even Sarin and Katarina were stunned, both by Roland’s bizarre behavior and by the fact that Qiong Xing spoke to him completely normally without reacting at all.

How exactly could this child still be surprised by anything anymore?

Convincing themselves they would probably find out eventually, they moved on to discussing the matter at hand.

"Roland, do you happen to run any restaurants?"

"I do not. I mainly focus on selling products myself."

"I see. Then would it be possible to create a small space inside the shop where people can sample the food?"

"...Sample it?"

When they asked what he meant, Qiong Xing explained that allowing customers to taste it before buying might encourage people to purchase it.

"But there is no guarantee people will actually buy anything afterward, right? If they just eat the samples and leave, it would only become a loss."

Katarina nodded, clearly agreeing with Sarin.

"But you said it yourselves earlier. People hesitate because they do not know it. In that case, if they are allowed to taste a small amount and learn the flavor first, then we can simply teach them ways to cook with it at the same time. There may not be much profit at first, but once it gains momentum, I believe the costs can be recovered."

That actually sounded workable.

Qiong Xing even suggested changing the preparation methods depending on the day to make it more effective, causing Roland to fall into serious thought.

Katarina and the others thought it sounded like a wonderful idea, but since they knew little about business themselves, they could only wait for Rolamd’s opinion.

"The price is already somewhat high though. Even so?"

"If the concern is that it is expensive, then as long as it is not excessively overpriced, I do not think it will be a problem. Miso is usually diluted rather than used directly, so it likely will not be consumed very quickly. If customers are also taught proper storage methods, I think they would feel more comfortable purchasing it."

In some ways it was an entirely new style of business, but speaking as customers themselves, Katarina and the others found the idea extremely appealing.

The moment Roland suddenly burst into laughter, Sarin immediately sensed something bad coming.

He quickly pulled Qiong Xing behind him just as Roland collapsed dramatically into the exact spot where Qiong Xing had been standing seconds earlier.

As expected, Roland had probably tried to hug Qiong Xing out of sheer excitement.

"Why would you stop me!? If I do not express this overwhelming emotion now, then when am I supposed to!?"
