Chapter 286: Farewell
Chapter 286: Farewell
Aegon really wondered what kind of wine Xiu drank. It knocked her out so badly that she wouldn’t wake up even if he tried all kinds of things. He wanted her to accompany him in bidding everyone farewell, and also help him pick good clothes for his date.
"Haha! I knew that already," Arthur chuckled and said. "Don’t expect her to get out of bed anytime soon. Even if she wakes up, she’ll laze around because of a headache."
"She really drank that one, huh," Liliana sighed. "I guess she was too happy meeting her brother finally."
Arthur smiled sheepishly, obviously just as happy. For the first time in sixteen years, he talked to his baby sister. Of course he was on cloud nine. Along with his relationship with Aegon improving, he felt back in his prime. His blood boiled with excitement to finally return to the battlefield.
"You make me so curious about it," Aegon said. "Can you please tell me which one it is?"
Arthur opened his mouth and then closed it, his eyes full of conflicting emotions. Aegon was asking something from him for the first time, but he also couldn’t break the promise he had made to his sister. Such a dilemma.
"Don’t bother," Liliana answered for him. "If you wish to learn, just ask her. I’m sure she won’t refuse you."
"Meh, no fun in that," Aegon shrugged.
Liliana smiled and raised her hand. In response, Aegon lowered his head so she could pat it comfortably. She said, "Call me if you need anything. I’ll always be there for you."
"Hehe, you’re my mentor. Of course, I’ll bother you even for small things," Aegon chuckled softly.
"It’s not a bother at all. I’ll actually be very happy if you do that," Liliana said, meaning every word of it.
She really hoped he would mess with her, bother her, and make her angry with his pranks. The kind of things a youngest child would do.
"I’ll give my best in bringing trouble to you," Aegon promised seriously, which made the couple laugh together.
"Lily already said everything I wanted to say," Arthur said, patting Aegon’s shoulder. "Just know that I’m very proud of you, child. Do whatever you want, and this old man will support you in everything. Go wild. At least one Augustus deserves to have a life outside the army."
"Marshal, if you say it like that, then you’re also calling Opa an ancient one," Aegon said. "And I don’t want that. He’s pretty young, you know."
"I believe you," Arthur smiled.
"But Xiu calls him Elder Old," Aegon shrugged. "And I can’t really fight her on that."
"Haha!" Arthur laughed, remembering the old days. "She used to give names to everyone. They didn’t mind, but Mother was different, so they always fought."
Aegon stared at his expression and said, "I really want to hear everything about the past. Like hearing stories of your childhood and hers too."
"I’ll come back and tell you all kinds of stories," Arthur promised. "There’s so much to tell. So much to catch up on. I can’t wait for all of this to be over."
Aegon nodded, then spread his hands. "I can at least get a hug, right?"
Arthur and Liliana gasped in surprise, before Liliana embraced him, a smile forming on her face. Arthur soon joined from the other side as the couple caressed his head, tears in their eyes contrasting with their bright smiles.
"I’ve been waiting for this," Arthur said, trying to contain his emotions. "Thank you."
"I should be the one to say that," Aegon said softly. "Please know that you two are wonderful people, someone I admire a lot. Although I can’t be a son to you, I promise I’ll be your good friend, junior, or student, whatever you want to consider."
They said nothing, so he guessed they were overwhelmed. He could understand their feelings, as he also felt emotional. The two had suffered a lot already, so he felt happy for them now.
"Alright, I’m leaving then," Arthur said, patting his shoulder one last time.
"How are you going though?" Aegon asked in confusion. "I mean, old man Sam can just teleport, but I doubt you can."
"I have ways to do that too," Arthur smiled, then turned westward. "It’s pretty simple."
Taking a few steps forward, he crouched down and then launched himself into the air with a loud sonic boom. Before Aegon could even react, he saw the clouds splitting in the sky as if something had cut through them.
’Dayum,’ he thought, marvelling. ’I guess he isn’t the Marshal for nothing.’
"He is also at Rank 8," Liliana said quietly from the side. "This is very easy for him."
"Wait! What if he loses momentum mid-air?" Aegon asked, though he wondered if his question was stupid. With such speed and force, there was no way he could lose momentum that easily.
Liliana nodded in satisfaction. "As always, you ask interesting questions. At his rank, the air might as well be solid to him. So there is no need for momentum."
"I guess I’ll need to go deeper into science," Aegon muttered. "I spent most of my time on spells. One more question: if the air becomes solid at his speed, doesn’t that mean he can hit it like a wall?"
"It is easy for him to achieve that speed," Liliana smiled. "So tell me, do you think it’s hard for him to go beyond and destroy that wall completely?"
"Makes sense."
"The air can feel like a wall to him... but only if he allows it," she added.
"Interesting," Aegon mumbled. "Can anyone reach the speed of light?"
"Easy there, genius," Liliana moved before him and said. "Not everything is for you to know yet."
"Fine, fine. I’ll be more careful, but can’t promise," Aegon threw his hands up and asked, "By the way, where are you going after this?"
"I did promise to help humanity," Liliana said, looking into the distant twilight sky. "Take care of yourself. I’ll be around. Also, look after Claire. She’s a good girl, but also clumsy. Don’t give up on her."
"I won’t. She seems very sweet," Aegon smiled.
Liliana smiled, and then she also left.
